Benefits of polyunsaturated fatty acids for our pets

Omega-3 are long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids, involved in many processes of the animal’s organism and play a very important role in the prevention of several diseases. The most popular are EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid), which can be found in many foods, such as: fish oils, vegetable oils (olive, sunflower…), in some green leafy vegetables, seafood, seeds…

When we hear Omega-3, we directly imagine the image of a heart. And its fame is not wrong, since its main property is to prevent cardiovascular diseases, among others.
Another of the most popular benefits in the world of companion pets, is to maintain and improve the health of the coat and skin, providing a more lively and shiny coat, and a healthy and hydrated skin.
In addition to the above, these fatty acids act on the animal’s immune system and provide energy, improving the states of tiredness and fatigue. It is an interesting nutrient for animals with allergies or other autoimmune diseases.
How to nourish your pet with Omega-3?
The majority of animal feeds contain a balanced amount of all the nutrients required by our pet, however, it is never a bad idea to provide them with an extra source of Omega-3, as it is not only very beneficial, it is also very easy to do and our pets love it.
The best way is to add vegetable or, better yet, fish oil to the feed, stir it in, and you will have your pet lovingly attached to its food bowl. You can even make him feel like it in the case of those animals that are difficult to feed.
The oils can be the ones we consume (olive oil, sunflower oil, tuna oil, salmon oil…), however, you can also get high quality oils in several brands for animal feed and / or supplementation.
